Ego Boyo is a Nigerian Actor, Producer, Executive Producer, and Creative Entrepreneur. She is the founder and Managing Director of a production company based in Lagos, Temple Productions and Temple Media. Born in Umushi, Nnokwa, Idemili South, Anambra State, Nigeria during the Nigerian Civil War, to the family of Augustine Nnamani and Gloria Nnamani Nee Harewood. Ego has a BA ( Bachelor of Arts, Thr) from the University of Benin.

Nwakaego (Ego) Boyo is a gifted Nigerian bag of talent. A Nigerian actress and movie producer — popular for her role as Anne Haatrope in the late 1980s soap, Checkmate, she doubled as the 60th president of the International Women Society (IWS), an independent, non-political, non-governmental, and non-profit organization founded in 1957.
Born in Umushi, Nnokwa, Idemili South, Anambra State, Nigeria, during the Nigerian Civil War, to the family of Augustine Nnamani and Gloria Nnamani Nee Harewood, Ego Boyo started her film career in the early 1990s series Checkmate, where she played the character of Anne Haatrope, alongside other outstanding actors like Richard Mofe Damijo, Bob Manuel Udokwu, Francis Agu, and Kanayo O Kanayo.
She started her own production company, Temple Productions, in 1996. The studio was set up in 1998 with its first set of digital equipment, (one of the first companies to do so as the industry made the gradual change from unsticking equipment) and opened an office at Dolphin Estate in Lagos with a staff of ten. Temple’s first major client was The ‘Obasanjo For President’ campaign, for which the company produced jingles and advertisements. As a movie producer, she produced the silent movie A Hotel Called Memory in 2017, which won the audience award for best experimental film at the BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia.
As the founder of the Temple Media Advocacy and Information Foundation (Temple Foundation), she is focused on highlighting women’s education and women’s healthcare. As an advocate for education, Boyo was on the advisory board of the Oando Foundation and founded schools across Nigeria to create a sustainable educational system that would empower pupils.
Ego, who is the Executive Producer and chief executive of Temple Productions, Temple Films, and Temple Studio, was also a Global Rights Ambassador for Global Rights Nigeria; whose work focuses on combating sexual violence against women. She is also the founder-director of the Lagos Preparatory and Secondary School in Ikoyi. She is interested in advancing the teaching of Nigeria’s history in the schools with which she is involved.

With over 25 years experience and expertise consulting and producing premium award-winning media content in Nigeria. She became a household name in 1991 when she made her professional debut in the critically acclaimed Soap opera ‘CHECKMATE’ on the Nigeria Television Authority alongside other outstanding actors including Francis Agu and Richard Mofe Damijo.
After five years on the Show, She made her debut as a Producer with the Film VIOLATED (1996) and established her production company Temple productions, and rental Studio to move the Industry into the Digital space and meet the equipment needs which were prevalent at the time.
To deliver additional quality on its productions, Temple partnered for a period with the South African firm The Refinery for post-production services. The studio was set up in 1998 with its first set of digital equipment, (one of the first companies to do so as the industry made the gradual change from unstick equipment), and opened an office at Dolphin Estate in Lagos with a staff of ten.
She is the Founder and a trustee of Tempio Media Advocacy, and the Chair of the Advisory board of the Lagos Fringe Theatre Festival, a multi-disciplinary Festival that runs annually in Nigeria and encompasses the full spectrum of artistic diversities.
Ego is also on the governing board of the Mirabel center, the first sexual assault referral center (SARC) in Nigeria.
Ego is a non-executive director on the board of Lagos Preparatory and Secondary School, Ikoyi, a private British curriculum School based in Lagos.
She previously served as a member of the advisory board of the Oando Foundation and was the 60th president of The International Women’s society, and a member of the charity serving in multiple capacities. She is a women’s advocate and is very passionate about the girl child. She believes in advocating for a better world where women are free from every form of violence, rape, gender inequality, and inhuman activity against women. She believes in creating a positive image of women not based on the normal African stereotype of women in movies as jealous wives, backbiters, and wicked mother inlaws.
